Amina Elmi published her debut book, Barbarian\ [Object of Silence], in 2023. Her Danish-Somali background is a motif in her book, which is also about moving between several cultures, about getting angry when you are patronized and finding a place in life, love, faith and language.
Amina Elmi's book has already been awarded prizes by both the Danish Academy and the Danish Academy.
The poems mix different languages and zigzag between Danish and Somali in a surprising way. But can one? What effect does it have on the reader? And is this a third language coming into being? The conversation between Amina Elmi and Anne-Marie Mai takes a closer look at the linguistic zigzag and at the important themes that the poems address. Amina Elmi gives samples of her poetry, and there will be occasion for a short conversation with the audience.
